UNESCO: The work done in the field of biosphere reserves in our country was discussed at the meeting of the Natural Sciences Commission
A meeting of the Natural Sciences Commission of UNESCO was held within the 41st Session of the General Conference.
Our country was represented at the meeting of the Natural Sciences Commission by Firuddin Aliyev, Head of the Biodiversity Protection Service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and Rashad Allahverdiyev, Deputy Head of that Service.
During the discussions on biosphere reserves, member of our delegation Firuddin Aliyev spoke about the work done during recent years to expand the network of specially protected natural areas in the country, as well as the creation of biosphere reserves, assessing biosphere reserves as an effective activity for protected areas.
The service official also informed the participants about the start of work on the creation of the first biosphere reserves in the Caucasus and Azerbaijan.
The proposal to celebrate the International Day of Biosphere Reserves, put forward at the meeting of the Natural Sciences Commission within the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference, was supported.
