The next meeting of the Second Electoral Group chaired by Azerbaijan was held at UNESCO

A meeting of the Second Electoral Group (Eastern European States) chaired by Azerbaijan was held at the UNESCO Headquarters.

The meeting, chaired by the Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, Ambassador Elman Abdullayev, was attended by Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Social and Human Sciences, as well as representatives of the Member States of the Second Electoral Group.

After the adoption of the Agenda of the meeting, the Permanent Delegate of the Russian Federation to UNESCO, Ambassador Alexander Kuznetsov, as Vice-President of the UNESCO Executive Board from the Second Electoral Group, reported on the results of the 212th session of the Executive Board in October 2021.

Gabriela Ramos, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Social and Human Sciences, briefed on the activities of the sector during the General Conference, as well as the side events to be held within the GC. She expressed hope that the Recommendations on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence will be adopted at the forthcoming General Conference.

Touching upon intercultural dialogue, Gabriela Ramos thanked Azerbaijan for the Baku Process and spoke about the country's support for UNESCO in the field of intercultural dialogue.

It was agreed at the meeting that the next chair of the Second Electoral Group will be Bulgaria from January 2022.

The meeting continued with speeches by representatives of the Member States and an active exchange of views.
