UNESCO: The Information Session on education was held under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan

The Information Session on the Global Declaration on Connectivity for Education was organized by UNESCO and chaired by Azerbaijan on October 27, 2021.

The session was attended by Azerbaijan's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, Ambassador Elman Abdullayev, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Education Stefania Giannini as well as ambassadors and representatives of the Electoral Group II Member States.

During the information meeting, UNESCO representatives shared information about the Global Declaration on Connectivity for Education and details of its content.

The main purpose of the session was to inform the Member States on the purpose, principles and commitments of the Global Declaration on Connectivity for Education, and to raise awareness about the Declaration and its approval at the RewirEd Summit in December this year.

The negative effects of the pandemic on education, the fact that 700 million students still suffer from school closures, the reality that technology is still inaccessible to 47% of young people and children, and the activities of the Global Education Coalition initiated by UNESCO were discussed at the meeting.

Speaking about the main principles of the Global Declaration, UNESCO's Education Sector emphasized the importance of focusing on the marginalized groups, expanding investments in free high-quality digital educational content, and the requirement of the pedagogical transformation to provide the digital transformation of education.
