As a result of the efforts of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Permanent Delegation of the Republic of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, the city of Lankaran has been included in the Network of Creative Cities in the "Gastronomy" nomination.
By the decision of the UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, 49 new cities have been added to the «Creative Cities Network».
The Network has aroused great interest in local communities and the new list reflects the diversity of cities' typology and geographical balance.
Since 2004, the creative potential of the members of the network is determined in seven nominations: crafts and folk art, design, cinematography, gastronomy, literature, media and music.
The Network includes 295 cities from 90 countries that invest in culture and creativity to develop a sustainable urban strategy.
On the occasion of World Cities Day 2021, the city of Lankaran in Azerbaijan was included in the list of Creative Cities in the "gastronomy" category by the UNESCO Cities Platform. This is the third city from Azerbaijan in the Network after Baku and Sheki.
