UNESCO has been invited to join Azerbaijan's "Peace for Culture" initiative

Within the framework of the UNESCO General Conference, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Elnur Mammadov met with Assistant Director-General of UNESCO for Social and Human Sciences Gabriela Ramos.

The sides exchanged views on relations between Azerbaijan and UNESCO in the field of social and human sciences. The «Baku Process» initiative put forward by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev in 2008 was discussed. It was noted that UNESCO is one of the main partners of the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue held within this process and was expressed the determination to continue cooperation in this direction. The initiative "Peace for Culture" put forward by Azerbaijan was touched upon and UNESCO was invited to join this new initiative of our country.

The meeting also highlighted the high level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO and noted the contribution of the First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva to the development of this cooperation.

Touching upon cooperation with UNESCO in the field of sports, Elnur Mammadov noted that our country successfully hosts many international competitions. He said Azerbaijan has a rich experience in this field. Holding international events and competitions in Azerbaijan reflects the confidence in our country. He stressed that we are ready for cooperation in the field of sports and collaboration in this area will develop successfully.

The meeting was attended by the Permanent Delegate of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, Ambassador Elman Abdullayev and the Second Secretary of the Permanent Delegation Nahid Omarov, as well as UNESCO staff working in the social and humanitarian spheres.
