We need to work to reinforce South-South and triangular cooperation, which would include UNESCO

Permanent Delegate of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, Ambassador Elman Abdullayev, voiced these views at a meeting of the Latin-American and Caribbean States Group.

On February 16, 2022, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM)/UNESCO – Paris Chapter, chaired by Azerbaijan, took part in the regular meeting of the Latin-American and Caribbean States Group at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

The meeting was chaired by the Permanent Delegation of Paraguay.

Permanent Delegate of Azerbaijan to UNESCO E. Abdullayev spoke about the importance of the NAM platform, informed the participants about the work done during Azerbaijan's chairmanship and the essence of mobilizing efforts to make the voices of the NAM countries well heard on the UNESCO platform.

"Global pandemic has revealed many vulnerabilities around the world. Global South suffered much more. We saw how our members have had to struggle to have access to very primitive means in fighting the pandemic. As a Chair of the Movement, Azerbaijan has implemented a number of supportive initiatives. We have all seen that they are useful. We need to work to have a refreshed multilateralism, reinforcing South-South and triangular cooperation, which would include UNESCO as organization. The NAM provides a broad and comprehensive platform for our constructive consultations and win-win partnership,” - Abdullayev said.

The speech aroused great interest of the NAM countries and the Permanent Delegate of Azerbaijan answered a number of questions addressed to him.
