Azerbaijan's Minister of Youth and Sport has been elected chairman of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport

An extraordinary meeting of the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS) was held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on May 24, 2022.

The main purpose of the meeting was to elect members and chairman of the Bureau of the Committee. According to the decision, Azerbaijan, France, Venezuela, Sri Lanka, Madagascar and Qatar were elected as the members of Bureau among the 18 members of the Committee. Then elections were held for the chairmanship of the Committee. The Minister of Youth and Sport of the Republic of Azerbaijan Farid Gayibov was unanimously elected chairman of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport (CIGEPS).

Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Azerbaijan to UNESCO Elman Abdullayev thanked the members of the Committee on behalf of the Government of Azerbaijan for their support. During the chairmanship of Azerbaijan, the Minister said that he would work closely with all members to make the work of the Committee more effective.

Congratulating the Azerbaijani representatives, the members of the Committee praised the hosting of the VII Conference of Ministers and Senior Officials Responsible for Physical Education and Sport (MINEPS).

It should be noted that CIGEPS is the only UNESCO Committee in the world that promotes the effective implementation of policies and programs in the field of physical education and sport among the member states.
