"Africa Week" was held at the UNESCO Headquarters

"Africa Week" was held at UNESCO Headquarters on May 23-25, 2022.

The event was organized in cooperation with the African Group at UNESCO and the African Union.

As part of the "Africa Week", the focus was on the culture and art of the countries of this continent.

UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay, Prime Minister of Cote d'Ivoire Patrick Achi, Chair of the UNESCO Executive Board Tamara Rastovac-Siamashvili and ambassadors of African countries spoke at the events held during the week.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of “The Food of the World” fair organized as part of Africa Week, Azerbaijan's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO Elman Abdullayev spoke about the country's contribution to Africa at the national level, as well as within the Non-Aligned Movement and noted that Azerbaijan as a good friend will always stand by Africa.

Our national cuisine and music were presented at the fair. Our compatriot Sema Moghadam presented our national dance "101".

A video promoting Azerbaijan was shown as part of Africa Week.

On the night of May 25, the young pianist Etibar Asadli performed the composition "Black Eyebrow" with the trio. Apart from Azerbaijan, 17 countries took part in the Gala Evening.

It should be noted that Azerbaijan is one of the sponsors of Africa Week. Our country contributes to the training of personnel in African countries. Diplomats from African countries have the opportunity to study at ADA University.

Also, through the UNESCO/Azerbaijan Trust Fund established in 2014, our country has been closely involved in financing various projects in many African countries, such as girls' education, gender equality, equality in education, in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Liberia. Azerbaijan has also contributed to local governments' efforts to improve the quality of life and well-being of young girls and women by participating in projects for girls and women on access education. The disadvantaged groups of society, especially young girls and women, have been closely involved in developing strategies to facilitate access to education, improve the quality of education and increase educational opportunities.
